Scripture: Daniel 1:5
So how did Daniel and his friends manage to flourish in the midst of captivity and exile. How did they come to a place where they would be able to resist mandates and even willing to face death in defying a crowd of thousands for their faith? The answer is in part in Daniel 1. Daniel 1:5 says, “And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king.” This was the ancient equivalent of being accepted into Harvard or Yale with a fullride scholarship. Eating from the King’s table was a high honor in any ancient culture, and Babylon was no exception. Daniel and his companions were in effect being asked by ‘President’ Nebuchadnezzar to be fledgling members of his cabinet! FRIDAY,
