THURSDAY, MARCH 8
Scripture: Mark 10:40-41

Jesus did not say ‘no’ to James and John when they tried to gain advantage, He asked if they were willing to pay the price! They answered ‘yes’ and Jesus said, ‘you will’. “And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John.” Here is where we begin to see the impact of selfish-ambition and other fleshly motivations. Walking things out God’s way is always harder than pursuing our own plans! How did the ten respond to James and John’s play for personal promotion? Their peers began to be greatly displeased with these brothers. James and John demonstrated selfishness for all to see! They become the origin of strife in the group. The reaction of the others was, “And when the ten heard it they began to be greatly displeased with James and John.” We must ask ourselves why? The answer is that they were self-promoting. They were not serving, they were self-promoting. If we are going to walk in a way so as to please God and demonstrate the fullness of Christ, we cannot have self-promotion. Self-promotion is 100% flesh-driven and self-serving. Walking in God’s ways is always a trial for our flesh but, overcoming has great rewards!
