Scripture: Exodus 19:3-6

Exodus 19:3-6 says, “And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.” God gave Moses a message for the people. God had a covenant He wanted to make with them where He promised to make them a special treasure above all people. He wanted to make them a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. But a covenant always requires something of both parties, so these amazing promises came at a cost. The cost was obedience, but the people did not fully understand the price before they had to accept or decline. Moses delivered God’s offer to the people and later he told them the cost. God said if the people would obey His voice and keep His covenant then they would be a special treasure to Him, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. They were at the beginning of a covenant relationship with God. This covenant relationship is available to us as well. Will we enter it and will we keep covenant? If we decide to enter in, we have to be aware of the cost of obedience. Getting to know Jesus the prophet like Moses brings us into a dimension where we can be part of the answer and not the problem. Will we do it? The church today has an added benefit not known by the Old Testament Israelites – praying in tongues!
