Scripture: Luke 24:44-49

Praying in the Spirit definitely connects us with the power of God that is needed in any given situation. Jesus made that clear to the Twelve in some of His last words spoken to them in Luke 24:44-49. This passage says, “Then He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.’” Jesus was very direct with His leaders. They had to stay in Jerusalem until they were endued with “power”/doo-nam-is. The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit include the wisdom gifts, the knowledge gifts and the power gifts. Doo-nam-is is generally considered to be among the power gifts. Jesus knew exactly what they needed, and He knew what they needed to receive it so they could be fully equipped for their ministry. The Greek word used in Luke 24:49 translated “endued” is en-doo-o. It is literally, ‘The sense of water sinking into a garment until it is saturated.’ It is also used for ‘Being completely clothed with.’ Jesus instructed the Twelve to stay in Jerusalem until they were completely clothed with the power of the Holy Spirit. That was the command, and they completely understood it and acted on it.
