Scripture: Leviticus 11:43,44

Leviticus 11:43,44 says, “You shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps; nor shall you make yourselves unclean with them, lest you be defiled by them. For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” These verses were a wise warning that many animals were disease carriers and all those who ate carrion were considered defiled. These prohibitions were given as part of the dietary laws. All the animals who fed on the dead were to be avoided. God said to sanctify ourselves and be holy, for He is holy. We are not to defile ourselves or the land that He gave us to live in. Because God is holy, His creation is holy and it is therefore possible to defile a holy creation by choosing to sin against God by violating His Word.
