SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26
Scripture: Exodus 20:8, Isaiah 58:13

Exodus 20:8 says, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” We are told to choose a day each week to rest before the Lord and on that day to honor the holiness of our God. That is a choice that every individual has to make and God wants obedience from us. Isaiah 58:13, says, “Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly.”(NLT) Our wise God knew that observing one day a week as a day of rest would yield many benefits. It creates and strengthens family ties and friendships. It promotes health and joy and gives time for reflection and creativity. Every time we keep the Sabbath we are affirming that there is a Creator and we are celebrating our Creator and His goodness. There is no substitute for honoring God’s holiness or for resting one day a week.
