Scripture: Exodus 20:12

Commandment number five says, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” The New Testament adds, that it may be well with you on the earth. We live in a season where many parents fail to live up to their responsibilities and their children suffer through lack of involvement, discipline and supervision. But still God says ‘Honor your parents!’ Can we choose to obey God even when our parents forfeited their right to honor? Can we choose to obey God even when parents do not deserve it? If we can, there is a blessing to be possessed! It needs to be added here that we are not suggesting giving parental honor where there has been gross negligence, injury or abuse.
