Scripture: Joshua 23:11,12

The New Century Version of the Bible quotes Joshua 23:11,12 as saying, “So you must be careful to love the Lord your God. ‘If you turn away from the way of the Lord and become friends with these people who are not part of Israel and marry them,…’” In the NKJ, verse 13 says, “…know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.” The way the Israelites forfeited the covenant blessing of God was by departing from the way of the Lord. As long as they kept the way of the Lord, then they had covenantal blessing to destroy the enemy. When they departed from the way of the Lord, they lost that covenantal blessing. It is fairly straightforward and simple and it is the manner in which covenant works.
