Scripture: Matthew 10:11-15

In Matthew 10:11-15 we see Jesus making that transition for the twelve before they ever leave the city to which they are sent. Verses 14-15 state, “And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!” Jesus said that when people do not receive you invoke a Biblical curse on their head and tell them that judgment is coming. That is not turning the other cheek. That is saying that you have chosen to reject the Word of God therefore the God of heaven rejects you. It will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for you. Rejecters of God were warned about judgment. Why do we not warn rejecters? Where is the warning Jesus commanded? Our tradition has taken teeth from the Gospel. We do not bring God’s justice on the heads of people. Jesus told the twelve to do it. Why are we nicer than God?
