September 2008 Outcry

Every four years I am always stunned and amazed by so-called Bible believing Christians who profess to know the Lord Jesus and yet consistently support politicians who spit in God’s face and support positions which the Bible says fill the land with iniquity and bring destruction upon it. The two foundational issues which should separate every believer from the idol of a political party are abortion and homosexual marriage.  The affiliation of  political party makes little difference if we are drawn to violate God’s Word by cultural allegiance.  Spiritual idolatry is on display when we place party above Bible.

The homosexual agenda has been making advances in the last few years by finding a solid home in activist Judges and one political party.  If leaders in the House and Senate have their way preaching what God says about homosexuality will be “hate speech” In Daniel 11:37 a characteristic of the ultimate Antichrist spirit is revealed. Daniel said, “He shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above them all.” It is obvious that the Antichrist spirit comes in a package that is wholly given over to homosexuality.  We now see the fruit of that spirit at work legislatively – to silence the church.  By voting for the party advancing this agenda a Christian aligns himself with the Antichrist spirit and precariously places himself in the path of judgment.   What deception could lure a believer to make such an alliance?  Where is discernment?

Hebrews 5:12-14 may postulate an answer, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.  But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” We may have been praying for the Saints when we should have been praying for the leadership.  The televised approval of the Lakeland outpouring  by America’s Charismatic fathers in the faith seemingly condoning the presence of manipulation and mammon put me on my face.  If you as a leader knew of moral indiscretions already present and proclaimed your approval before the world, there are deeper issues than a discernment deficit.  I choose to believe they did not know and therefore the real OUTCRY needs to be in behalf of our leaders over the issue of discernment.  I am not saying that any leader has disqualified himself by prematurely passing out approval, but it does cause me to question the level of discernment.

I have always marveled at the disciples who on the very last night they were with Jesus were unable to discern the betrayal in their midst.  There was a reason for lack of discernment.  Luke 22: 21-24 states, “‘But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.  And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!’ Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.  But there was also rivalry among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest.” The disciples had the betrayer in their midst and could not discern Judas, the treasurer. Why could they not discern? There seems but one plausible answer – because they were fighting for position and the financial benefit of it.  They apparently could not discern mammon in their midst when it had them by the throat (See Purifying The Altar).  We can not discern it others that which possesses us.
