Scripture: Proverbs 22:6
Once we have a firm foundation, it cannot be easily shaken and it is one of the reasons that we are told, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” This isn’t to discount free will, and it isn’t to guarantee that Godly love and parenting and Bible lessons will result in our children choosing to wholeheartedly follow Christ. But it is far more likely that our kids will be able to resist the onslaughts of the world if they have a firm foundation on which to stand. This brings us back to Daniel and his friends. Doubtless, there would have been some other Hebrews who had been taken into service in Babylon, but the Bible does not record their stories. The Talmud describes that in Babylon the exiles eventually developed a number of somewhat vibrant Jewish communities, but these Babylonian Jews were still a small minority in a very pagan land.
