Scripture: Matthew 26:26-29

Matthew 26:26-29 says, “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body.’ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.’” There is an interesting thing that we see when Jesus instituted communion at the Lord’s Super. He declared that His Blood is the Blood of the New Covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sin or the absolute obliteration, the wiping out with no penalty remaining. With one application of the Blood we remove stones and thorns. This means that the record of the wrong is erased or it is completely blotted out so that it no longer exists. The word ‘forgiveness’ is too light a word for the concept that is being declared. The fullness of what is expressed in this word is remission of sin to the degree that even the record is expunged and there is no remembrance of it anywhere. How gloriously complete is that! That is a concept worth drinking joyfully to in communion. It is worth celebrating and it is something we need to accept, fully embrace, acknowledge and digest. If God expunges and extinguishes the record then why tolerate the accuser. No wonder Paul could say, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. He was relying on the extinguishing of the record of all past sins and failures, not only was there freedom for past mistakes and sins but the slate was rendered pure and clean. Through quick repentance and the cleansing of the Word any future missteps can also be expunged. The record of failures simply doesn’t exist anymore. It is gone. I trust that we are actually taking this level of freedom into our hearts and getting serious about establishing our position in God’s Family. This truth allows acceptance of Sonship. Our position of a son or daughter of the Most High is built on holiness and freedom from blame, shame and guilt. Blame, shame and guilt destroy faith! Paul lived out the truth of this and understood that remission was made complete by the Blood of Jesus. It is a choice and you and I have to renew our mind with these passages of Scripture. We persuade our heart as we adopt Bible truth and declare God’s truths over our mind, will, emotions, spirit, soul and body. We are literally creating a new identity in Christ. Because the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, we will probably have to contend for our freedom. We need to do whatever it takes to walk in complete freedom and not stay trapped in self-condemnation! We are building a foundation for faith as sons and daughters of the Most High!
