Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:11-12

1 Corinthians 2:11-12 says, “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” Verses 11-12 make it clear – we have been given the Holy Spirit for the purpose of revealing to us the fullness of what God has done for us. Context determines meaning and the context of 1 Corinthians 14 helps tell us how it works. How does God open up our understanding? When we pray in tongues, we pray the mysteries of the Kingdom into our understanding. The Holy Spirit reveals it to us in His time. It is simple, but may require perseverance and patience. Interpretation only comes in His time. God has graced us with the tools we need to receive revelation. We need to use what the Holy Spirit has given – we need to use our prayer language.
