Scripture: Luke 17:1-4

Luke 17:1-4 says, “Then He said to the disciples, ‘It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, “I repent,” you shall forgive him.’” When do we forgive sin and when do we retain it? Luke 17 tells us. When we confront a brother concerning his sin if he repents, we forgive him. If he does not repent, we retain the sin and go to the next level. The next level we find in Matthew 18 which is to take another brother and both go together and confront together. If the brother still does not repent we retain the sin and we tell it to the church. Then the church begins to deal with him. God gave us His Spirit in order to navigate the impossible places of relationship and the impossible places in life where we just do not know what to do. Those are the places we need wisdom beyond human reasoning. All the levels of power are accessible through tongues. The question is are we going to develop and use this valuable key that God has made available?
