Scripture: Deuteronomy 18:15-17

Deuteronomy 18:15-17 says, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ And the Lord said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good.’” Why did God say that reneging on the covenant was good? Because the Israelites saw the fire and they implored Moses to go talk to God and come tell them what He said. In effect they were saying ‘Moses, you suffer the penalty of death if there are any mistakes.’ Why did God say that was good? Jesus looked ahead to the fact that we were going to need the Holy Spirit and He said to Moses, what the people have spoken is good. But it is only good if we, on this side of Pentacost, use what the Lord has provided. If we do not, then we fall behind. Consider the condition of both the nation and today’s church. If the church would begin praying God’s will, things in the nation would likely change.
