Scripture: 1 Samuel 18:7-16

David had to escape the scrutiny of Saul on a number of occasions. As David was playing music with his hand, in order to relieve Saul’s distress, Saul grabbed a spear and threw it at him. But David escaped his presence twice. Saul tried to kill David because he was afraid of him. The Lord was with David but had departed from Saul. Saul finally removed David from his presence and gave him another job of leading the army out and in. David took every opportunity that Saul gave him and walked in the Spirit until he gained the respect and confidence of the people. Verse 16 says, “But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.” Not only did David embrace every assignment that God gave him, but he did his absolute best in the performance of it even when Saul tried to kill him in the midst of it. He totally trusted God for his life and his safety and he learned an amazing walk of faith. We need to follow in his footsteps!
