Scripture: 1 Kings 18:26-29

1 Kings 18:26-29 says, “So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, ‘O Baal, hear us!’ But there was no voice; no one answered. Then they leaped about the altar which they had made. And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, ‘Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.’ So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them. And when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice. But there was no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention.” They made their sacrifices to Baal and did everything they could to prove their god was real and to produce fire. And at noon, Elijah started mocking them. So they cried aloud and cut themselves even more until the blood gushed. But there was no answer. Part of praying judgment is allowing people to come to the end of themselves. Let’s realize the pain of the waiting interval is part of the price you and I may have to pay. Elijah paid for it here. He had to wait until they came to the end of themselves. And that took the better part of a day to happen. We need to be willing to wait that day or week or month or year. When we are in God’s economy, our faith carries us through the whole process, however long it takes. And we must be prepared that it may take a long time. If we are prepared for that, then we can start praying judicially.
