Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:7-9, Psalm 37

2 Samuel 7:7-9 says, “Wherever I have moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.”’” This is the passage where God offers David the covenant of Sure Mercy. And the very first manifestation of that covenant was, God cut off all David’s enemies from before him. Jesus makes that available to us. And what does that mean? It means no one can be our enemy and persist when we are doing God’s will. But that is the key – we must be doing God’s will. We have to be fully yielded, fully abandoned and given over to the Lord. When we walk surrendered and obedient, He is ruling and we are doing His will. That is the way it was with King David and that is how it can be with us, if we are fully yielded and in His will, the Judge manifests for us. We have the covenant right to ask God to make our enemies our footstool, especially when those leaders, by their choices, are filling our land with iniquity! Five times in Psalm 37, King David prays asking God to cut off his enemies.
