Scripture: Genesis 37:3-10

In Genesis 37:3-10, we find Joseph being the son of his father’s old age, elevated over the others, extremely loved, given gifts and because of the extra favor, his brothers’ jealousy grew to hatred. The dreams compounded the problem because they implied Joseph would be elevated over his parents. God gave Joseph the very things that set him up for betrayal. It was almost as if God gave them so that he would be betrayed. Sometimes the transition from one season to another has a price. We wrestle with the question, “Why have you repaid evil for good?” Ultimately, we have to wrestle with and perhaps even forgive God for His part in our adversity. For those who know family betrayal, they know the pain of Joseph’s question. If you have never experienced that level of adversity, then you know Joseph’s agony! You can understand the burning question in Joseph’s heart. You know the pain of it, you know the tears of it and you know the ag-o-nee-ah of it. “Why have you repaid evil for good?” is an eternal question. It is almost a thumbprint mark of God’s Hand on those He chooses to use in unusual ways. God’s call has a preparational price. The price found Joseph. The price finds us! Can we drink the cup?
