The longest recorded sermon Jesus ever preached is the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, 6, and 7.  Chapter 5, verse 13 establishes the tone for the message by delivering an assignment with the yardstick by which we can measure our growth toward maturity. Verse 13 says, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”

The last phrase has particularly captured me recently as I ponder a lifetime of Supreme Court activism and governmental intervention, stealing, killing and destroying what previous generations bled and died to preserve as a Christian heritage. The assault on Christianity manifested in Engale v. Vitale (1962 ) when the Supreme Court banned prayer in public schools. In Abington v. Schempp (1963) the court banned the use of the Bible in schools. In Lemon v. Kurtzman (1971) they banned reimbursing religious schools for any educational costs. In 1973 in Roe v. Wade they sanctioned the murder of innocent children creating a river of blood that cries for vengeance against the Nation. In the Stone v. Graham case of 1980, the Court decision in effect removed the Ten Commandments from most school walls.  In Wallace v. Jaffree (1985), the Supreme Court ruled that one minute for optional prayer or meditation was unconstitutional. In Santa Fe ISD v. Doe (2000), the Court banned schools letting even students lead a prayer at a school function.

Considering the judicial activism of the last fifty years, the phrase jumps out is “… trampled underfoot by men.”  Are we good for nothing as the past 50 years of history indicates? The magnitude of loss seems damning though we still have to face the last part of our race.  Can we recover and regain our salt in time to save the nation? Many would say no, but I feel there is still hope for our generation.

James 5:16,17 defines having salt as the ability to execute blood covenant promises to save the land.  Elijah prayed the door to financial resources closed to the nation.  This supernatural manifestation opened the ears of both the people and the political leadership for a season!  The land was cleansed and the nation recovered.

Willingness to confront in justice by denying resources to those practicing evil is essential to demonstrating salt.  The pain of bankruptcy should be prayed on media companies or wealthy individuals intent on antichrist agendas.  Moving God’s hand in such a way demonstrates salt. Jesus the Judge wars by drying up the resources of the wicked and transferring them to the righteous! James 5:1-9 makes the father’s heart clear,

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!  Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.  Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.  Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you.  Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.  You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!
