After a long season of adversity Hannah overcame barrenness to birth a son, Samuel, whom she promised to the Lord. On the day Samuel was presented in the temple, Hannah prayed prophetically and declared a seasonal change. I Samuel 2:4-6 says, "The bows of mighty men are broken, And those who stumbled are girded with strength. Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble. The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and He brings up."

The church could make a difference if we get intimately acquainted with the God who ultimately judges. I believe God feels the same way today about select individuals as He felt in Genesis 6:6,7 "And the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. So the LORD said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’" Apparently God feels the same way in the New Testament when He releases judgment on demand in Revelation 11:5,6.

While the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, the God of the Bible judges wickedness with death, sometimes spontaneously and other times when His hand is moved by intercession. Revelation 22:11 reveals an end-time church assignment, "He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still." The unjust are like their spiritual father. God’s antidote are the righteous who activate His justice by their prayers. David modeled this intercession consistently and Psalm 149 proclaims it an honor for every believer to execute.

Until the church gets to know and can readily activate the God who judges, evil will prevail. Jesus commanded us to overcome evil with good. When God kills, the evil promoted by men and women stops. Overcoming evil happens when believers activate the God of covenant by praying Davidic prayers! David asked God to destroy in order to stop evil and God did. Why are we so slow to follow a biblical pattern? We have a better covenant based on better promises and are not using it! Imprecatory mercy is a "big gun" in the church’s end-time arsenal. Shoot straight!
